Jacks or Better
While we don’t have any number s with which to back up our claims, we can be pretty certain that of all the video poker variants in the world, Jacks or Better is the one that receives the most play time. It is arguably not the most inspiring game when placed alongside the likes of Joker Poker or even Deuces Wild, but if you’re after video poker in a way that has been enjoyed for decades and little out of the ordinary, then you simply cannot go wrong on this game. The quickest way to find this game at your favourite Microgaming casino is simply to sort the games by popularity and we’ve got everything you need to know about how and where to play in the full review below.

Play Jacks or Better for Real
Jacks or Better is so solid and consistent that it’s fair to say that it isn’t the most entertaining game to play when there’s no cash on the line. It can certainly kill some time in demo mode, but we’re confident that players will be more interested in playing for cash sooner rather than later. You certainly won’t have to look to hard to find high quality action as we’ve reviewed the biggest brands in Canada before putting together a definitive list of the top places to play. You’ll find the ones that offer this version of Jacks or Better on the right hand side of the page.
How to Play
Getting into the action on Jacks or Better is child’s play – not that we’d advocate underage play of course! Simply cycle through the coin bet amount presented at the bottom of the screen, which are available at a $0.25 minimum and $5 maximum, then click the pay table to choose how many coins you wish to place on each hand. As is often the case on video poker, the prize amounts are consistent across all coin bets except for the Royal Flush, which is far more valuable when playing for all five coins and comes in at 4,000 coins, enough to make a serious difference to any bankroll!
As the name of the game suggests, any hand consisting of a pair of jacks or better will qualify for a prize and while that low end isn’t overly inspiring, any prize can be thrown into the gamble feature where you can keep on doubling up until you either decide to collect or get a pick wrong, at which point the prize is forfeited and it’s back to the main game.
Our Verdict
While Jacks or Better is clearly not as inspiring as some of the newer video poker releases at Microgaming casinos, for many players that can be a good thing. It’s simple, effective and consistent action that defines what video poker is all about, and an extremely valid choice of game whenever you head over to one of our recommended Microgaming casinos.
